It's a New Day with Turner-Bey

Alonzo Turner-Bey is a passionate advocate, public servant, and grassroots leader running to serve District 26 on the Maryland Democratic Central Committee — bringing lived experience to a seat that has never seen it.

Born and raised in Southeast Washington, D.C., Alonzo attended elementary school in Prince George's County, then Francis Scott Key Middle School and Suitland High School. He later enrolled at Coppin State University, deepening his connection to civic life and service.

Alonzo's journey includes hard chapters. He spent over 31 years incarcerated — but used that time to transform his life. He mentored others, worked in the prison hospital, and studied law, justice, and healing. In a defining moment, he intervened to protect a correctional officer in crisis — an act of courage that helped redefine his future.

"It's a new day. A day when the people of District 26 deserve someone in that seat who has truly walked their walk — and is ready to serve."

— Alonzo Turner-Bey

Since his release in 2020, Alonzo has become a leading voice for reentry reform. As Director of the Returning Citizens Affairs Division for Prince George's County, he works daily to connect formerly incarcerated individuals to housing, jobs, mental health support, and education — collaborating with F.R.E.S.H., The Bridge Center, and the ACLU of Maryland.
